Ice Breakers / Company Mixer

In order to get everyone involved in the picnic I am thinking that we should have some type of games that help people to interact. Please give your ideas about the types of games or activities we can use to involve everyone that attends the day of the party. Keep in mind the following:

[list][*] This is a family event so spouses, significant others, and children will be in attendance and need to be included.

[list][*] The picnic will begin at 11:00 AM and lunch will be served starting at 12:00 noon.

Try to be as discriptive as possible when making your suggestions.

Ice Breaker

As people arrive have them write a unique item about themselves on a 3x5 card (adults, kids, anyone who can write) put the cards in a bucket and have people pull them out and try to figure who belongs to what unique item. You can also hand out the cards and have people hand them to who they think they belong to and gather at a certain time to read off who ended up with what.

Loads of fun and you learn something unique about each person.

Ice Breakers/Games

Post  JerJHodge on Wed Apr 27, 2011 11:06 am

The only thing I had thought about was a "how many items are in this bottle" type of game but only using items from various departments of IEC. Small electrical fittings from EC, Nuts/Bolts/balls from ball bearings from the motor shop, paper clips/highlighters from accounting etc. If we wanted to make it a game to see which department came closest in it's guesses then you have different colored index cards that people submit their guess on color coded to what department they are from etc. Not sure how much "ice breaking" this does as far as interaction with others but it seemed kinda fun.

A twist on Becky's idea is to have the managers (or whoever wanted to participate) submit three "facts" about themselves with two of them being real and one being fake. Compile the list and have people guess at the party as to which are the real facts and which are the fakes.

Jeremy, like the idea, we could go one step further and have the cards filled out prior to picnic and put them on a bulletin board and have people write the names on the cards and review them as a group.

What about a simple puzzle game.

Post  Admin on Wed Apr 27, 2011 2:19 pm

I was thinking about a simple puzzle. Basically every person that comes gets a puzzle piece (puzzles would have to be very simple say 10 pieces that we make). You then have to go around and find the other people that make up your puzzle. Once the puzzle is assembled it could lead to another stage such as a message about something the group has to do. The puzzles have to be limited so that everyone that has a piece would be able to complete a puzzle, but that is a simple thing to do with the person handing out the pieces.

Ice Breaker

Post  bcordes on Wed Apr 27, 2011 2:48 pm

An ice breaker for kids would be the "balloon match" the kids are given a blown up balloon when they come to the picnic or at any time during the picnic, they have to find someone else with the same color balloon and both parties need to go to a "candy or treat" table together in order to both receive a treat. Causing kids to create new friends.

Points to remember

Post  BobG on Thu Apr 28, 2011 1:33 pm

I think one thing that we have to keep in mind is that "the guys" in our company may not want to participate if these "ice breakers" if they are to complex or involve to much participation. We probably want to take this into consideration when planning the mixer.

I like all the ideas posted so far! Maybe it would be nice to have games/activities with different levels of interaction required. Has anyone googled games for ideas. As I stated in the Picnic Committee meeting this morning, the most important things is that people have clear directions about how to play/interact.

Not yet I guess at this point we need to make a decision unless someone else has an idea. If I don't hear anything by tommorrow morning I'll setup a vote.
